Why the Galaxy S24 won’t have 24GB of RAM – Is it really necessary?

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 series is already creating a buzz in the tech world. The latest leak from tipster Ice Universe has revealed that the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will likely come with at least 8GB of RAM as their base variants. The Galaxy S24 Plus and the Galaxy S24 Ultra will also have a 12GB RAM option alongside the base variant.

However, the rumored 16GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S24 Ultra may not make it to the final production stage, as another tipster, Revegnus, suggests. This alleged move appears to be a cost-cutting measure to keep the prices of the Galaxy S24 and the Plus model more affordable. While this decision could be disappointing for some, it is important to note that smartphones with such high amounts of RAM may not necessarily need it for optimal performance.

The shift to 12GB RAM for the Galaxy S24 series is a departure from its predecessor, the Galaxy S23, which was offered in 8GB RAM variants. This decision also comes at a time when competitors like OnePlus are launching phones with 16GB and even 24GB of RAM. The upcoming OnePlus 12 is opting for a whopping 24GB of RAM, setting a new standard in the industry.

Samsung’s decision to cap the Galaxy S24 series at 12GB of RAM could potentially put them behind the competition. However, it remains to be seen whether the average smartphone user truly needs that much RAM for their day-to-day tasks.

As we await the official release of the Galaxy S24 series in 2024, it will be interesting to see how Samsung positions these devices in a market that is constantly evolving with new technological advancements.
