Unveiling Google Gemini: Paving the Way for AI Models in 2024 and Beyond
Google has just announced its new AI model, Google Gemini, which is said to be the company’s “next-generation foundation model.” This AI model is made up of three different sizes: Gemini Nano, Pro, and Ultra. Gemini Nano is designed for mobile devices, while Gemini Pro is being integrated into Google Bard. Gemini Ultra is set to arrive next year and will be part of the new “Bard Advanced experience.”
The development of Gemini began in 2012 and the latest model, Gemini Ultra, is expected to outperform human experts on massive multitask language understanding, using a combination of 57 subjects such as math, physics, history, law, medicine, and ethics. Gemini Ultra will be released to select customers, developers, partners, and safety and responsibility experts for early experimentation and feedback before rolling it out to developers and enterprise customers early next year.
Gemini Nano, which is the most efficient model for on-device tasks, will be coming to the best Android phones and will be available to developers via AICore. Gemini Pro, the best model for scaling across a wide range of tasks, will be accessible to developers and enterprise customers starting on December 13. It has already been implemented into Google Bard for text-based prompts.
Google Bard, which is the access point between users and Gemini, will be available with Gemini Pro today. In a teaser video, YouTuber Mark Rober demonstrates the capabilities of Bard with Gemini Pro, using it to generate video ideas and determine the most accurate paper airplane design. This teaser gives a glimpse into what will be possible once Bard Advanced with Gemini Ultra is made available.
This announcement has the potential to be the biggest thing to happen to Google in the past ten years. Now, we just have to hope that Bard with Gemini can live up to the hype.
