Get ready for the new iPhone 16 models – redesigned Action button on the way!
Apple will be adding a new Action button to all upcoming iPhone 16 models. The button, which allows users to perform specific tasks with a press, is currently only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The new button will be a capacitive button, unlike the mechanical one found on the current models. It will work like the Touch ID home button on older iPhones, by detecting a change in pressure.
The new button, codenamed Atlas, is expected to have a similar function to the Touch ID home button. Additionally, a new Capture button is also expected to be introduced, although its purpose is still unknown. The Action button will also be included in the upcoming iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in 2024 or 2025. This means that there are no iPhones in development with the original dedicated mute switch.
Apple has been experimenting with different sizes for the new Action button, including one that is roughly the size of the volume buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro. The new button has been spotted on several iPhone 16 prototypes and mentioned in documentation for those phones.
Currently, the Action button offers options such as Silent Mode, Flashlight, Camera, Shortcuts, Voice Memo, Focus, Accessibility features, Magnifier, and Translate (coming in iOS 17.2).
This new addition to the iPhone 16 models will provide users with easier access to certain tasks and functions. Stay tuned for more updates as Apple continues to innovate its devices.
