Alaska Airlines Becomes First Airline to Offer Tap to Pay on iPhone for In-Flight Purchases

In a move to provide a seamless and convenient experience for travelers, Alaska Airlines has announced that it will be implementing Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone feature for in-flight purchases. This means that passengers will now be able to make contactless payments for items such as in-flight meals, snacks, and drinks using their iPhones.

This new initiative comes as part of the airline’s effort to embrace innovative technology and give its guests more options for payment. According to a press release by Alaska Airlines, travelers will have the flexibility to pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless cards, or any other contactless payment method of their choice.

Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone feature was first unveiled in February 2022 and has been gradually expanding to additional countries around the world. Multiple payment platforms, such as Square and Stripe, have also integrated the feature into their systems.

For its implementation of Tap to Pay on iPhone, Alaska Airlines has partnered with payment platform Stripe. This collaboration has enabled the airline to offer passengers the convenience of making contactless payments using their iPhones, Apple Watches, or other digital wallets.

Charu Jain, senior vice president of innovation and merchandising at Alaska Airlines, expressed the airline’s commitment to providing a seamless and caring experience to its guests. Jain stated, “We’re constantly innovating to give our guests the most seamless and caring experience possible. We’re proud to partner with Stripe to be the first airline to bring Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology to flight.”

The feature is currently available on select Alaska Airlines flights and is expected to be rolled out across the entire fleet within the next few months. This new development reflects the airline’s dedication to leveraging technology to enhance the travel experience for its passengers.
