Google has updated its Recorder app for Pixel phones with a new feature called Transcribe again. This new tool can transcribe past recordings into 42 different languages, making it easier for users to understand and translate audio files.

The Recorder app, which is exclusive to Pixel phones, previously allowed live transcription in seven languages. However, with this new update, users can transcribe recordings in languages that are not supported by the live transcription feature. To use the Transcribe again feature, users simply need to open up a past recording and tap the More icon (the three dots) in the top right corner of the screen. From there, they can choose the Transcribe again option and select one of the 42 supported languages.

The audio file is uploaded to Google’s cloud servers, processed, and then sent back to the user’s device. This process usually takes a few minutes. Google provides a disclaimer before starting the transcription, reaffirming that the audio file will be processed on its servers.

The update has already rolled out to all Pixel devices supporting the latest version of the Google Recorder app. It has been tested on the Pixel Fold and has worked flawlessly. This feature is different from the Video Boost feature, which is exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro despite being cloud-based.
