Rare signed check from Steve Jobs before iPhone release sells at auction – incredible piece of Apple history!
A check signed by Steve Jobs in 1976 has been sold for $46,043 at auction. The check was originally written for $4.01 to Radio Shack. This was more than four years before Apple went public and made Jobs, Wozniak, and others millionaires. The auction also featured items signed by Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, the third partner when Apple was incorporated. The lot sold for $491, which was higher than the expected amount.
In addition to the check, an 8GB first-generation iPhone that was still sealed in the box was sold for $10,456. This particular model didn’t attract a higher bid because of its storage capacity. The 4GB model, which is the rarest model, previously set a record for being auctioned at $158,644 due to its limited availability from June 29th until September 4th, 2007.
According to RR Auction, without Radio Shack, there might never have been an Apple or an iPhone. Steve Wozniak used Radio Shack’s TRS-80 Micro Computer System to help him build the Blue Box, which he sold to consumers for making free long-distance calls. Today, Apple is once again a $3 trillion company, and Radio Shack’s IP was sold this year to a company called Unicomer Group.
