Strava Introduces New Messaging Feature for Athletes
Strava, the popular fitness app, is getting a new feature that will allow users to connect and communicate with each other. The new feature, called Strava Messaging, will be available in the v335 update for both Android and iOS devices. This update is expected to roll out in early December.
With Strava Messaging, users can send direct messages or group messages to their fellow athletes. This will be particularly useful for members of Clubs, as it will allow them to coordinate and share routes for running club events or races. Group messages can include up to 25 members at once.
However, there are some restrictions on who you can message. By default, users can only message their followers, and they have the option to restrict who can message them personally. This means that permission is required to message other users, and users can also customize their messaging settings to control who can message them.
While Strava Messaging is not as feature-rich as some other messaging apps, it does allow users to share links, reply to messages, add emojis, and mark messages as unread. However, the ability to share photos and GIFs will be added in early 2024.
Premium subscribers will also have access to additional messaging options in the future, and the app will expand its share options to include clubs, posts, and events in early 2024.
Overall, Strava Messaging is expected to be a useful tool for active users to connect directly within the app, eliminating the need to rely on other platforms for communication. It remains to be seen whether this new feature will catch on among the app’s user base.
