Exclusive: iPhone 16 Pro prototype ditching Dynamic Island for hole-punch cutout – first look
Apple iPhone 16 Prototype Being Tested with Hole-Punch Cutout
The iPhone 15 series has only been out for a short while, but rumors about the iPhone 16 series are already surfacing. According to a tipster known as Majin Bu, Apple is currently testing a prototype version of the iPhone 16 Pro with a hole-punch cutout instead of the Dynamic Island that debuted last year. However, it may be too early to say goodbye to the Dynamic Island as another reliable tipster, Ross Young, suggests that all four iPhone 16 models will feature the Dynamic Island.
Young also predicts that the Pro models in the iPhone 16 series will feature larger displays, with the iPhone 16 Pro increasing from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max increasing from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Furthermore, big changes are expected for the iPhone 17 in 2025, with non-Pro models matching the screen sizes of the Pro models for the first time.
However, it is still uncertain whether a hole-punch cutout will be used in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Majin Bu suggests that it is unlikely to be released, and it is possible that the Dynamic Island could return. Meanwhile, Ross Young forecasts that the iPhone 17 Pro series in 2025 will have an under-display Face ID module with a hole-punch cutout on the screen, similar to what is reportedly being tested on the iPhone 16 Pro.
With the initial excitement surrounding the Dynamic Island, it still remains to be seen whether Apple will enhance the capabilities of the feature. As of now, it seems that the future of iPhone displays is still up in the air, with several possibilities for both the iPhone 16 and 17 series. Overall, Apple seems to be exploring various options to determine the best display technology for their future iPhone models.
